TRAINING INTRODUCTION

It used to be that only HR Managers needed certain skills or competencies as only they performed HR functions and all others had to refer to them in these areas. Now this view has changed to: ALL managers, irrespective of their rank or department perform HRM functions. It has become essential that they know the basic functions of HRM and attain competencies and skills in order to perform effectively as day-to-day managers of people. The HR Specialist acts as a resource person and provides specialist advice and services. The workshop deals only with the narrow essential or core competencies or skills that management in every position should know in order to function effectively at department or organizational level. The competencies and skills include writing effective job descriptions and specifications, calculating headcount numbers, interviewing, counseling, TNA, performance appraisals, taking disciplinary action and motivating employees.
