CONVOCATION 2017- A truly momentous occasion
With a cast of more than 400 graduates, guests, friends and family, gathered for Lincoln University College Convocation 2017 at Grace Convention Hall, Mayang Plaza this Friday March 3rd 2017. 411 students were graduated in this convocation, which was truly momentous occasion on an unprecedented scale for Lincoln University College. Students from more than 15 countries like Myanmar, Sri Lanka, India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Cambodia, Pakistan, Yemen etc were graduated. H.E. Abubaccar Jah, Ambassador of Gambia, H.E. Muawia El Bukhari, Ambassador of Sudan, ASP Razali Sevaraju (Ketua Balai Polis Kelana Jaya) along with Deputy High Commissioner from Sri Lanka and representative from embassy of Pakistan graced the occasion.
The day’s events marked an extraordinary day for all concerned. The convocation began with the Grand Academic Procession and was declared open by Prof. Datuk Dr. Hajjah. Bibi Florina Abdullah, Pro-Chancellor LUC. Prof. Dr. Amiya Bhaumik, Vice Chancellor / CEO LUC, extended his warm welcome to those present. Dr. Amiya Bhaumik congratulated the graduates and said “to reach this point was a significant achievement in itself, it takes hard work, determination and teamwork to have come this far.” He proudly announced the five important benchmarks set in the 15th year of establishment- Graduation of the first batch of Medical students, graduation of the first batch of students from new programmes offered along with Doctorate of Medicine, PhD programs, M.Sc Biotechnology, M.Sc in Electrical and Electronics Engineering. Possession of own campus – Wisma Lincoln Campus, Launch of 80 programs in different levels starting from Diploma to Doctorate and the launch of three online journals with ISSN. He wished the graduates for best and asked to embrace the challenges, get ahead of the change and finally keep on continuing to have same dream with full passion, patience and perseverance.
The management of Lincoln University College conferred Honorary Doctorate in Management to Prof. Datuk Dr. Abdul Gani Mohamed Din, Foundation Dean, Faculty of Medicine. Then the convocation started with the conferment of the Degree to the Doctorates in PhD Health Science program. This was followed by conferment of degree to the Doctor of Medicine (the pioneer batch) and then rest of the graduates of LUC.
Ms.Yap Hung Wei, Ms.Swaranalheahkha A/P Ballasingam and Ms Puah Kai Lun were awarded as the top 3 students Medical Faculty. 27 students from various faculties were honored with the Dean’s Award. Ms.Dionna Dharmini A/P K.Kathigasu and Mr. Amit Mullick were awarded with the Chancellor’s Award for achieving academic excellence.
Prof. Datuk Dr. Hajjah. Bibi Florina Abdullah, Pro-Chancellor LUC, conveyed her heartiest wishes to the graduates and said “in the last 15 years of establishment LUC has positioned to be an institution that provides outstanding learning experiences, a reliable training ground for students and an innovative space for applied researches. Thereafter she declared the closing of the ceremony. The Convocation Ceremony ended with a ray of hope and joy.
For many, the occasion was an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that they will never forget. Graduates and their guests were notably impressed by the splendor of the ceremonial traditions and the grandeur of the auditorium in which the ceremonies took place. Many were said to be “bursting with pride”, having been congratulated on their academic achievements.
