The Master of Science in Dentistry under the Faculty of Dentistry is designed to provide the students the basic education needed to become a dental practitioner while introducing a unique course education system and to promote the development of a new academic discipline for dental medicine as a leader of oral health science.

Program Overview

Yes, our MSc in Dentistry program has received accreditation from the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA).

Yes, we do! Every student is assigned a mentor as part of our mentor-mentee program. Your mentor will guide you throughout your academic journey, providing support in both academic and personal development. These sessions are designed to help you navigate challenges, set goals, and make the most of your time in medical school.

As an international candidate you cannot apply for an Annual Practicing License at the MDC. However, if you obtain a job at any Malaysian Institute/Clinic, the employer will assist you in obtaining a Temporary Practicing certificate on your behalf.

After the MSc program, you can enroll in the PhD program at LUC or any other university worldwide.

The MSc program is a masters by Research program only. You will be allowed to interact with patients for data collection as part of your research project. However, you will not be allowed to undertake in any treatment procedures for patient care.

The MSc program is a masters by Research program only. So, after the completion of the coursework, the program involves conducting a research full time.

Yes, our faculty of Dentistry have a student group called the ‘LUC Densa’. This student group is involved in various curricular and extracurricular activities like NDSSC, Community Camps, Family Day out, Gala night etc.

The university has a Student Representative Council (SRC) which allows the students to discuss their issues among themselves and bring it to the management for solution. The Faculty of Dentistry also has a strong alumni group which will help the students to grow personally during and after the completion of the study program.

The MSc program has a three intakes every year (March, July & November) . The intake following your application date will apply to you.

Recommendation letters are not required for joining the MSc program. Academic transcripts signifying the eligibility of the candidate is sufficient to join the MSc program.

A short interview/aptitude test will be conducted by the faculty of dentistry to determine the candidate’s aptitude for pursuing the MSc program. Candidates with CGPA between 2.5 – 2.75 have to compulsorily take up and entrance test to determine eligibility for admission.

Career Prospects

After completion of the MSc program, you can apply for a PhD degree at LUC or other universities across the world or work as lecturer in any dental specialist department or researcher in any research center.

Credit Transfer

LUC allows transfer to other programs offered by the university provided the candidate attains eligibility for that program. This is achieved by transfer of credits from the departing program to the program the candidate wishes to join. Transfer to another university is possible but is very complicated and dependent on a number of factors based on the ministry of higher education and Malaysian qualification agency.

As an international student, you will have to submit transcripts for your bachelors in dentistry degree from your home country. If your transcripts are in local language. You have to translate it into English language and get it attested by notary or government agency.

Part time MSc in dentistry is available only to Malaysian applicants. For international applicants the program is compulsorily full time.

The MSc program has a three intakes per year (march, July and November). You can apply for admission at any time of the year to get admission for the nearest intake.

If your CGPA in the Bachelors of dentistry program is less than 2.50, you will have to submit working experience of minimum 5 years in the field of dentistry.

Minimum 5 years working experience in the field of dentistry: As Full-Time Tutor/Lecturer at Recognized Public/Private Universities; As Full-Time Dentist in Public/Private Hospitals;  As Dentist in own Dental Clinic; As Full-Time Dental Workshop Trainer/ Dental Coaching Centers in Dental Academies ( * Provide Registration in Local Dental Council & Work Experience Certificate)

Only candidates with a bachelor’s degree in dentistry (Minimum 4-5 years of full-time study in Dentistry) are eligible to apply. Dental assistants, Dental hygienist, dental technologists are not eligible to apply.

English Proficiency

International applicants whose first language is not English must provide proof of English proficiency. This is commonly done through TOEFL or IELTS scores. The minimum required TOEFL score is typically around 90 (internet-based test), and the IELTS minimum is around 5. The equivalent English proficiency accepted by the EMGS include MUET (Malaysian University English Test), IELTS/ IELTS Online (International English Language Testing System), TOEFL iBT (Test of English as a Foreign Language), TOEFL Essentials (Online) (Test of English as a Foreign Language), PTE Academic/ PTE Academic (Online)(Pearson Test of English), Cambridge English – B1 Preliminary,B2 First, C1 Advanced, C2 Proficiency, Cambridge English – Linguaskill Online, Cambridge English – Occupational English Test (OET)(Conventional/Online), ELS – Certified Intensive English Programme Level (CIEP Level)
