Programme Overview

The Master of Science in Public Health program under the Faculty of Sciences is designed to give students academic and technical skills in broad areas. This program prepares professionals to work on a wide range of public health initiatives;policy advocacy, health education, institutional administration, treatment delivery and disease prevention. The program combines the precise training in international relations theory and practice with the analytical and quantitative tools of policy making. The program teaches students a wide range of skills that are valuable for careers in government, business, and international organizations. Global health concerns such as AIDS, avian bird flu, SARS, malnutrition, global warming and the recent Ebola virus have significantly increased awareness and understanding of the critical importance of public health in today’s global society. The program would train students in a breadth of research and practice intended to improve population health across the life course. The program is designed as a trans formative program, which offers students the education, training, and first-hand experience essential for successful international careers.

Minimum Entry Requirement:

  1. A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent with minimum CGPA of 2.75 in related field, as accepted by the HEP Senate; OR
  2. A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent with CGPA between 2.50 and 2.75, can be accepted subject to rigorous internal assessment; OR
  3. A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in related field with CGPA of less than 2.50 and a minimum of 5 years working experience in the related field.

 

English Language Proficiency Requirements for International Students:

  1. Minimum IELTS Band 6.5; OR
  2. TOEFL 550 (Paper Based Test) or 79-80 (Internet Based Test); OR
  3. If the student does not fulfill the above criteria, the HEP must offer English proficiency course to ensure that student is proficient in the language to the standard required by the program.

 

The course will prepare students with the knowledge and skills so that these professionals could enhance health in human populations, through organized community effort to assure services essential to protect and promote the health of populations. These public health programs would focus on preparing individuals who will serve as practitioners,researchers and instructors, competent to carry out broad public health functions in local, state, national and international settings.Potential career positions include:

The program aims to improve the overall health of the population and reduce health inequalities by addressing the wide range of factors that influence health. The Master of Science in Public Health will prepare graduates to be:

About The Program

This program is designed to equip students with advanced knowledge and skills in public health theory, practice, and research. It aims to prepare graduates to identify, analyze, and respond to complex public health challenges using evidence-based approaches.

The program focuses on developing expertise in epidemiology, health promotion, environmental health, health policy, and research methodology. The Coursework pathway emphasizes applied learning and professional practice.

The program integrates global health perspectives and practical skills that are relevant across diverse healthcare settings. It also offers research opportunities, international collaborations, and exposure to current global public health trends.

Students have access to career counseling, resume workshops, internship placements, networking opportunities, alumni connections, and professional development seminars throughout the program.

English Proficiency

International applicants whose first language is not English must provide proof of English proficiency. This is commonly done through TOEFL or IELTS scores. The minimum required TOEFL score is typically around 90 (internet-based test), and the IELTS minimum is around 6.5.
