Programme Overview

Diploma in Nursing is a three years program. It is primarily intended for those, who are willing to embrace a profession, which is self-gratifying and humanistic. To meet the ever increasing demand of health care, the course has been designed to endow the graduates with the adequate knowledge and skills, which will enable them to function effectively as a Registered Nurse and as a member of the health care team, locally or globally.

Entry Requirements :

For Malaysian Candidates :

  • Pass Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) or EQUIVALENT with five (5) credits:
  • Mandatory credit in:
    a) Bahasa Melayu,
    b) Mathematics (Elementary or Additional or Modern)
    c) Either one (1) of the credits below:
    – General Science
    – Biology
    – Chemistry and Pass in Biology
    – Physics and Pass in Biology.
  • Credit in three (3) other subjects.
  • A pass in English Language

For International Candidates :

  1. Pass Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) or *EQUIVALENT five (5) credits:

    1. Mathematics (Elementary or Additional or Modern) Either one (1) of the credits below:

  4. A pass in International English Language Testing Service (IELTS) with an Overall Band Score of minimum 5.5; OR
    Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL):
    1. TOEFL Paper Based test (TOEFL PBT) a minimum Score of 515.
    2. TOEFL Computer Based Test (TOEFL CBT) a minimum score of 215.
    3. TOEFL Internet Based Test (TOEFL iBT) a minimum score of 80.
  5. Able to converse in Bahasa Melayu. (EQUIVALENT- refers to the overseas academic qualification obtained that is equivalent to SPM as approved by MQA).

Health status:

  1. All candidates must be certified medically fit by a registered medical practitioner within one month from commencement of the nursing programme.
  2. Candidates with any of the following medical conditions cannot be admitted into the programme such as:
    1. HIV / AIDS
    2. Hepatitis B
    3. Hepatitis C
    4. Mental health disorders
    5. Epilepsy
    6. Color blindness.
  3. Candidates must not have any physical disabilities or impaired senses that hinder nursing dexterity.
  4. Pregnancy is not allowed throughout the course.

    Graduates of Diploma in Nursing can choose her pathway according to her /his interest. Pursue career to be in the clinical area as specialized nurse, become administrator or academicians. A nurse can also concentrate to be a researcher and involve in clinical research and development. Some might want to venture to be entrepreneurs to run their own businesses such as manage nurseries, nursing homes or rehabilitation centers.

This program emphasizes on the importance of critical and analytical learning, so that the graduates are able to provide, efficient and effective care to the patients. The core teaching content comprises health sciences, behavioral sciences and nursing sciences. This program also focuses on the enhancement of diverse skills including interpersonal, as well as team-working skills and we also encourage self-directed learning. Program Overview
What is the aim of the Diploma in Nursing Program?

The aim of our Diploma in Nursing program is to prepare students to become competent and compassionate nurses capable of providing high-quality patient care. This includes equipping them with essential clinical skills and knowledge necessary for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care. The program fosters an understanding of holistic, patient-centered care, emphasizing the importance of empathy and communication.

The program duration is 3 years (36 Months)

We have three (3) intakes in a year. January, July, and October

Graduate will be able to provide holistic nursing care with managerial and entrepreneurship skills

Comprehensive principles, concepts, theories and technical knowledge, practical skills and processes in nursing practice.

The clinical practice (Practicum) in Diploma in Nursing program is 58 weeks in the 3 year program duration.

If you fail the practicum in the Diploma in Nursing program at LUC, you will have to retake it in same semester. The university will provide feedback and remedial support, such as additional mentorship, to help you improve. Failing the practicum may extend your study period, and you can seek academic counselling for guidance on preparing for a retake. Consult your practicum coordinator for next steps.

What are the eligibility criteria for admission to the program?

To be eligible for the program, applicants must meet one of the following requirements:

LOCAL STUDENTS
•              Pass Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM)
•              or * Equivalent with five (5) Credits
•              Mandatory Credit in: Bahasa Melayu, Mathematics (Elementary or Additional or Modern).
•              AND Either one (1) of the credit below: Science/Biology/Chemistry/Physics/Applied science

•              OR Pass Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) Possess Assistant Nurse certificate/Community Nurse Certificate.

•              Possess current annual Practicing
