Programme Overview
This program is conducted in two stages:
- Preclinical Phase – A two year program, which covers Medical Science courses (Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Microbiology and Dental Courses (Professional Development and IT, Oral Biology, Society and Health, Preventive Dentistry, Dental Public Health, Dental Materials and Dental Technology). The latter is designed to help the students learn about the technical aspects of the dental program. Assessments take place in every semester along with yearly professional examinations.
- Clinical Phase – This phase covers the next three years of study. In this phase, integrated teaching and learning process is undertaken to expose the students to dental clinical work and it also helps them to learn about community dentistry. This program offers the students with the opportunity to enhance their critical thinking skills and acquire knowledge about a particular discipline of dentistry through research exercise, which is of interest to them. It includes subjects, such as Preventive Dentistry and Dental Public Health, Oral Maxillofacial Surgery, Conservative Dentistry, Prosthodontics, Periodontology, Orthodontics, Paediatric Dentistry, Oral Pathology, Oral Medicine, Dental Imaging, Endodontics and Dental Research. Students of this program, will also be exposed to medical subjects namely; General Medicine and General Surgery for better treatment of patients with chronic illness, who may require special needs as far as dental treatment is concerned.

Entry Requirements
A. The selection for admission to a Bachelor of Dental Surgery programme or equivalent implies selection for the dental profession.
A person who is qualified in Dentistry from a dentistry programme recognized by the Malaysian Dental Council (“Council”) is entitled to be registered by the Council. The fitness to practise Dentistry of the applicant shall be considered in the selection for entry into any dental programme.
B. The practice of Dentistry requires the highest standards of professional and personal conduct as well as professional competence.
1. Although some students have attained the academic standards required, they might not be suitable to for a career in Dentistry. This is to safeguard the interest of the public and of the applicant himself. It is better not to gain admission than to subsequently have to leave the course or profession.
2. It is the responsibility of the dental school to ensure that there are no particular circumstances that will impact upon an applicant’s fitness to practise upon graduation.
3. All applicants shall declare if they have all the followings which may impact upon their future practice.
i. been found guilty of any criminal offence(s);
ii. serious physical or mental illness; and/or
iii. serious communicable disease(s).
4. A person with any of the following shall be disqualified from entry into a dental programme:
i. found guilty of offence(s) affecting the human body;
ii. recent or serious dishonesty e.g. cheating in examinations, falsification of documents, plagiarism;
iii. serious physical or mental disorder;
iv. serious communicable disease(s) for which there are no available acceptable methods of protection
5. Failure to declare information that has a material influence on a student’s fitness to practise may lead to termination of their dental course, as honesty, integrity and good health are essential attributes of a dental practitioner and by extension, the dental student.
6. In the event of any doubt, the dental school shall seek clarification from the Council.
7. All decision makers of dental schools and aspiring applicants are advised to study the Council’s guidelines available at www.mdc.gov.my.
C. A high level of academic attainment is expected.
1. An understanding of science, in particular chemistry and biology, is central to the understanding of Dentistry. However, the Council recognizes the diversity of subjects taken by applicants and the contributions of those who have entered dental schools with other qualifications.
2. All applicants shall have attained a level of competence in English to enable them to complete the course successfully.
3. All applicants entering the dental programme via matriculation, foundation or pre- dental programme, except those with a degree qualification, STPM or A level shall have passed and attained a minimum of the following at School Certificate level or its equivalent:

4. All applicants, except those with a degree qualification in sciences, arts or humanities, shall have passed and attained a minimum of the following at:

5. Applicants shall be required to pass an aptitude test and/or an interview and/or a university entrance examination.
6. Graduates seeking employment in the government need credit in Bahasa Malaysia at SPM level.
7. For qualifications not listed in this document, the institution must obtain an equivalence assessment of the qualification from the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA).
8. Clarifications shall be sought from the Council in situations for which there are no provisions in this guideline
9. Graduates from a dental programme who seek employment in the public sector must fulfill the criteria set by the Public Services Commission of Malaysia (SPA).
Career Opportunities
There are excellent career options for Dental graduates and they can wish to pursue their career as dental officers in the Ministry of Health, Malaysian Armed Forces or any other government agencies. Students can aslo work in clinics or can choose to work in universities or institutions as lecturers/professors. Students interested in research, can opt to work in research centers or corporate agencies, to advance their career.
Graduates of Dentistry of Lincoln University College are eligible to be registered with the Malaysian Dental Council and undergo a two-year compulsory service (Malaysian citizens only) or any other requirement(s) depicted by the Malaysian Dental Council, on a frequent basis.

Being an international student, after completing my DDS program, can I do my horsemanship in Malaysia?
No, you cannot do internship as a foreign student.
Will I get a chance to pursue Research in Malaysia?
Research is a component of the DDS program; you will be given a chance to pursue a research study during the DDS program itself.
What is the practical structure like?
The practical depends on the subjects involved. For year 1 and 2. Practical’s will be lab based for basic medical science subjects and simulatory laboratory for dental subjects. For year 3, 4 and 5, practical exercises include patient treatment which will be supervised individually by our experienced staff.
Can I choose where to do my practical?
The practical sessions will be conducted at designated clinics within the university. However, we have MOUs with private and government institutions to give our students additional practical exposure.
Does the DDS program have extra-curricular student activities?
Yes, the Faculty of Dentistry have a student group called the “LUC Densa”. This student group is involved in various curricular and extracurricular activities like NDSSC, Community Camps, Family Day out, Gala night etc.
Are there community service components?
The DDS program has a specialized subject- ‘Dental Public Health’ which will offer the students ample opportunities to engage in community projects.
After completing the DDS program, what options do I have?
After the completion of the DDS program, you have to complete the mandatory government postings for a minimum of 1 year, following which you will obtain your Annual Practicing Certificate (APC) by the MDC, this for Malaysian student. For International students, they can start working after year 5.
I am not a Malaysian. Can I apply for APC at the Malaysian Dental Council?
As an international candidate you cannot apply for an Annual Practicing License at the MDC. However, if you obtain a job at any Malaysian Institute/Clinic, the employer will assist you in obtaining a Temporary Practicing certificate on your behalf.
Application Process
What is the application deadline for the DDS program?
The DDS program has a single intake every year and the academic year begins from the first week of November. It is advised that you finish the application process in advance to avoid any delay in starting the program on time. We still can accept the student until end of December.
Do I need any recommendation letters for admission?
Recommendation letters are not required for joining the DDS program. Academic transcripts signifying the eligibility of the candidate is sufficient to join the DDS program.
Can I apply for scholarships or financial aid?

Is there an interview process?
A short interview/aptitude test will be conducted by the faculty of dentistry to determine the candidate’s aptitude for pursuing the DDS program.
Deferment / Withdrawal
Will I be able to defer the program after taking admission in the DDS program?
Deferral is allowed for genuine reasons. Normally we allow deferment for 1 year. The student has to submit a formal letter requesting deferment along with supporting documents (Medical certificates etc). The application will be reviewed by the faculty and forwarded to the university for approval. NOTE: For international students, Deferment may result in difficulty for Visa renewal. So, the students have to discuss the issue with the program coordinator/Dean prior to submitting any applications.

Future Prospects
After my DDS program, what are the options I can pursue in Malaysia?
After the DDS program, you can enroll in the MSc program at LUC or any other university in Malaysia.
Career Prospects
As a foreigner, will I be allowed to practice dentistry after completed?
International students are not eligible to practice dentistry in Malaysia. So international students can return to their home countries or apply for licensure qualification examination in countries like USA, Australia, UK etc. LUC will help the students in orienting them for these examinations.
Are there any job placements after completion of the DDS program?
Local students will have to compulsorily work as an intern at Government Hospitals in Malaysia as part of internship for a minimum duration of 1 year. Following the internship, some students may be given an opportunity to continue their job while others can join private dental clinics as locum or setup their own practice. For international students, they have to return to their home country for completion of internship. International dentists can work in Malaysia only if they have an employment contract from public or private institutions.

I am not a Malaysian. Do I have to show SPM & STPM transcripts?
As an international student, you will have to submit transcripts for studies equivalent to 12 years of schooling. We accept students from across the world. The eligibility criteria vary from country to country. Is there a bachelor program in Dentistry that is for 3 years or shorter?
The minimum duration of the DDS program as set by the Malaysian Dental council and Malaysian Qualification Agency is 5 Years. Hence, there is no program available that is lesser than 5 Years Duration under dentistry.
Can I join the program at any time of the year?
The DDS program has a single intake per year and the program starts in the first week of November every year. You can apply for admission at any time of the year but admission closes on the 31st of December for that particular academic year.
Do I need any prior work experience in the field of dentistry for eligibility?
No prior work experience is required for joining the DDS Program.
How competitive is the application process for the DDS program?

Yes, qualifications recognized as equivalent by the Malaysian government are accepted.
Is a diploma accepted for entry?
Diploma in health sciences students can enroll in the DDS program. The diploma program should be minimum 2 & half years/5 semesters. Minimum CGPA 3.0 & above/ Minimum B in any 2 subjects (Biology, Chemistry, Physics) and any Grade in (English, Mathematics & any other subject)
What health problems can lead to my application for DDS program be rejected ?
The candidate should be free from any serious physical or mental illness that would hamper the practice of dentistry. Medical check-ups for serious communicable diseases such as hepatitis is mandatory prior to admission into the DDS program.
English Proficiency
What are the language requirements for international students?
International applicants whose first language is not English must provide proof of English proficiency. This is commonly done through TOEFL or IELTS scores. The minimum required TOEFL score is typically around 90 (internet-based test), and the IELTS minimum is around 5. What is the minimum score required for English proficiency?
Minimum IELTS score of 5.0 or equivalent. What if I don't have the minimum requirement in English?
We have English proficiency courses to ensure that you meet the sufficient requirement. This course will be conducted by the staff at LUC.
Is it possible to take Malaysian University English Test (MUET) while studying?
Yes, you can take the MUET during your studies. We offer the flexibility for students to take MUET while enrolled in their programs, especially if need to meet specific English language proficiency requirements for graduation.
Credit-Transfer
After joining DDS program, can I transfer to other program or university?
LUC allows transfer to other programs offered by the university provided the candidate attains eligibility for that program. This is achieved by transfer of credits from the departing program to the program the candidate wishes to join. Transfer to another university is possible but quite complicated and dependent on a number of factors based on the ministry of higher education and Malaysian qualification agency.
What are the documents needed for doing this credit transfer?
The documents typically required for a credit transfer application include: Official Academic Transcripts; Course Syllabi/Descriptions; English Proficiency certificates; Identification Documents (A valid ID or passport to verify your identity).
Teaching /Learning /Assessment
How are the students assessed during the examinations?
Assessment includes two components: Formative and summative. During the course of the program a number of formative assessments will be done which will include feedbacks for seminars/ assignments/group activities/ clinical procedures etc. Module tests and mock examinations will be conducted during the academic year. Professional examination which will be written and practical based will be conducted at the end of the academic year.
How do we prepare for the exams?
Students need to know learning outcomes of the subject, because teaching and exam must be related to the learning outcomes. Practice model questions during tutorial session.
What can I do if I am unable to pass in the examinations?
We have borderline Viva for students who have fallen short of the passing grade. This will give the student an opportunity to clear the examinations within the first attempt. If the candidate has failed in the examination, we will conduct a remedial examination giving the student a second opportunity to improve the grades and move on to the next year. The university will provide feedback and remedial support, such as additional mentorship, to help you improve. Failure to clear the remedial examination will result in repeating the academic year.

How can I pay the tuition fees?

What will happen if I have any outstanding fees?
It is important that all fees that are due be paid on time. Failure to make the payment on time may result in candidate not permitted to take up the examination or attend convocation.
Attendance
Is there any class attendance requirement?
Yes, every student must have minimum of 80% class attendance to be eligible to take any of the examination.
What happens if my attendance falls below the required percentage?
If your attendance falls below the required minimum, you may be barred from taking the final exams for that subject, and you might have to repeat the course in the following semester.
Are there any exceptions to the attendance rule?
Yes, exceptions may be made for valid medical reasons, participation in university-sanctioned events, or other documented emergencies. Supporting documents must be submitted to the relevant department for approval.
How is the attendance recorded?
Attendance is usually recorded by the instructor during each class, through an online system. Students are advised to regularly check their attendance status through the student portal or learning management system (LMS).
Can I check my attendance record online?
