Programme Overview

Social work is a professional and academic discipline that describes the application of social theory and research methods to study and improve the lives of people, groups, and societies. It incorporates and utilizes other social sciences as a means to improve the human condition and positively change society’s response to chronic problems. The programme deals with the fundamental knowledge of power and resources distributed in the world, and impact political decisions on societies. The purpose of the programme is to assist students to develop knowledge and skills for professional careers in international policy studies. The curriculum for Master of Social Work is also structured such that the students from social science, arts and humanities department from Lincoln University College and from outside of the Lincoln University College could enroll in the program to enrich their capacity in this particular field in order to broaden their sphere of opportunities in the marketplace.

For successful completion of Masters degree in LUC, each candidate should publish minimum of Two research articles in scopus indexed journals, with Lincoln affiliation.

  1. Bachelor (Level 6 Qualification Framework (MOF)) with honors in a relevant field or equivalent of University College Lincoln or other universities with a CGPA of at least 2.50; or
  2. Bachelor (Level 6 KKM) or equivalent not meeting CGPA of 2.50, can be accepted subject to a minimum of 5 years work experience in social work or other related fields; or
  3. For international students:
    Lecture score of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) 500, international English Language Test System (IELTS) 5.0 or other equivalent qualification for international students. If students do not meet these criteria, HEPs must offer English courses to ensure that the student’s proficiency is sufficient to meet the program requirements.

Social workers are concerned with social problems, their causes, their solutions and their human impacts. Career pros-pects for social workers are strong. In a volatile and constantly evolving economy, social work is also a profession built for flexibility. Opportunity in the governmental sector is mainly in the community development projects pertaining to health, education, rural development, child, woman and tribal welfare etc. Work in NGOs’ can be specific to either urban or rural area. Most popular social work careers: Medical Social Worker, Substance Abuse Counselor, Child Welfare Case Worker, School Social Worker

The programme lays emphasis on fundamentals of social work practice which communicates to individuals, families, small groups, organizations and communities. It is designed to provide specific knowledge and practice skills in the concentrations of Interpersonal Practice or Innovation in Community, Policy, and Leadership.

  • To comprehend and interpret the history of the social work profession and its contemporary structures and issues
  • To evaluate research studies, apply research findings to practice, and evaluate their own practice interventions
  • To draw on theoretical frameworks supported by empirical evidence to identify with individual progress and conduct across the life span and the communications among individuals and between individual and families, groups, organiza-tions, and communities.
