The University Gants Commission (UGC), has crafted guidelines for granting recognition of degrees obtained from foreign universities, restricting degrees obtained through distance and online mode as well as through any franchise.
The commission has also crafted norms for recognizing qualifications obtained from schools affiliated to foreign boards as well as from offshore campuses of a foreign higher educational institution.
UGC is a statutory body under Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Government of India and is charged with coordination, determination and maintenance of standards of higher education in India.
