Jammu May 13: Business Incubation and Innovation Centre, University of Jammu today organized a workshop on Research, Innovation, Patent and Commercialization at the General Zorawar Singh Auditorium. Dr. Amiya Bhaumik, Vice Chancellor, Lincoln University College Malaysia was the Resource Person for the workshop.

Dr. Bhaumik in his keynote address vividly elaborated how developing countries like China incorporate the theory of Confucianism in their daily lives and how this theory has helped them in achieving their goal of being the developed nation. He cited few personal experiences and said that how the Chinese people are applying the theory of Confucius in their research and are serving their nation in order to help their nation grow. Dr. Bhaumik said that over the years how he incorporated the teachings of Bhagvad Gita and how it helped him to be a successful teacher researcher. He emphasized how the necessity can lead to innovations and pave the way for development of most advanced gadgets and equipments for the service of mankind.

Dr. Bhaumik enumerated certain qualities of a teacher and said that a teacher is the one who can innovate and can contribute to the society by way of positive thinking.

Further Dr. Bhaumik said that the recently signed MOU between the University of Jammu and Lincoln University College would potentially lead to new opportunities and avenues in the areas of teaching, research, innovation, entrepreneurship and patents and commercialization. HE also appreciated the initiative of the University of Jammu for creating subsidiary company under Section 8 which will be helpful for the University in the years to come in the areas of entrepreneurship, innovation and societal and educational development.

Prof. Manoj Dhar, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu in his presidential address thanked Dr. Bhaumik for his thought provoking and inspiring lecture. Prof. Dhar also emphasized that how the principles of Bhagvad Gita could be applied in daily lives and how it can be helpful in career development. Further he said that there could be no better person than Dr. Bhaumik for first ever formal talk of BIIC, who has immensely contributed in the field of education and reaching out to aspirants in more than hundred countries and developing research platforms.

Prof. Dhar in his address expressed his happiness on the participation of large number of students from the affiliated colleges and various departments of the University. Prof Dhar also called upon the Student that if they have has any idea and wants to get it incubated, the University has the facilities for all those who want to start their ventures and provide the specific training/ skills to those students who come out of the colleges and universities to start thinking towards entrepreneurship as the main idea behind this is to create job providers rather than job seekers. He also motivated the students for thinking differently for creating, inventing and innovating.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Rajni Dhingra, Dean Research Studies gave a brief overview of the University of Jammu and said that over the years, University of Jammu has grown manifold and has become one of the vibrant educational hubs in the country. She said that the various teaching departments in the University of Jammu have been catering to the large number of students and scholars in this part of the country and also the University has signed various MoU’s which will definitely help in the growth of the University. She also gave details about the various grants that have been given to the University.

Prof. R. K. Ganjoo, Director, Colleges Development Council, University of Jammu in his closing address said that lecture delivered by Dr. Bhaumik is an eye-opener as it was the real blend of confucism and the teachings of Bagvad Gita and Swami Vivekananda. Prof. Ganjoo assured that the University will definitely raise the levels of research and will be the hub for new ideas, research, collaborations. He said that the Directorate of Colleges Development which serves as a nodal agency for all the affiliated colleges will try to bring in a new kind of teaching methodology in the colleges. The conventional teaching of chalk and talk will be replaced by interactive lectures, virtual class room, skill development courses which will provide hand on training to the students at a very young age.

Earlier Prof Parikshat Singh Manhas, President, Institution Innovation Council and Incharge Director, University Incubation & Innovation Centre (UBIIC) in his welcome address talked about the various initiatives taken so far to promote innovation and entrepreneurship among the students. He also gave brief details of the University Incubation & Innovation Centre (UBIIC) and also introduced the resource person. Prof. Parikshat talked about the initiatives related to the Section 8 Special Purpose Vehicle and informed the audience that it will be registered very soon.

Dr. Vinay Thusoo, Incharge Media Cell and member, BIIC conducted the proceedings of the workshop. Among others present on the occasion include Prof. Naresh Padha, Coordinator, RUSA, Prof. Rajnikant, Director, DDE, Dr. Meenakshi Kilam Registar, Dr. Dharminder Magotra, Joint Registrar, Faculty members of Jammu University & various affiliated Colleges, Dr B.K Bajaj, Member, BIIC, Officers, Scholars and Students from various affiliated Colleges and University of Jammu .
